The Bata drums are a doubled-head set of three drums played in both Lucumi and continental Yoruba ritual space. In Lucumi practice, the drums are hand beat, while continental practice sometimes use a leather strap. Bata are primarily sacred drums that have been extensively prepared (although unwashed sets are available and played). The Sacred Bata are dedicated to the Orisha Aña. Only those initiated to Aña can even touch a set of Sacred Bata.
The three drums are called: Iya (largest), Itotele (middle) and Okonkolo (smallest).
